Yorkeys Knob is one of the beach suburbs of Cairns, the regional capital of Far North Queensland, Australia. It is approximately 13 km north of the centre of Cairns, and is the third beach suburb after Machans Beach and Holloways Beach.
The great thing about Yorkey's beach is that it is relatively undiscovered and has not been developed like Palm Cove and Trinity. The beach has a lifeguard on duty and stinger nets surrounding it so it is safe the swim there. There are plenty of tables to sit at and taps and showers to wash off the sand. The water, even in July, is warm enough for swimming. I love the fact that the beach is good and long so in the early morning you meet people out for a good long walk or running. One end is dog friendly which I also like to see. There is no surf as the Barrier Reef is just off the coast here. In the afternoon the wind usually picks up and the kite surfers go into action. Great to watch or if you are young and fit it would be great to do.
